In Summary
This volume doesn't and so much motility forward as it delves astern. Lessons, remembrances, and flashbacks provide a better agreement of the factors separating humans and witches and the circumstances that brought our characters where they are now. Then bated from Vergue wrecking Liz'south house, not too much happens in these six chapters, but they make full in a lot of holes in the story.

The Review
Till now, little data has been given virtually the place in which the characters reside. At present we learn that The Land East of the East of the East is part of Erstes, a state that once achieved military victory with the assist of witches. Because it'due south already Volume 4, these basic details nigh Erstes are late in coming, plus the way they're presented (in the form of a schoolchildren'south lesson) is rather heavy-handed. Still, they do requite us a clearer moving picture of the club from which Liz has been exiled.

This provides a good place to introduce our adjacent new character. Captain Erwin is head of the borderland outpost near the witch'south forest. However, he's originally from the majuscule where he served Liz's blood brother. He non only monitors Liz'southward activities only seems aware of the true circumstances behind her adjournment. He also has his own power when information technology comes to witches. Despite the lazy front he puts upward, he is definitely not an ordinary human, and given his complicated background, he's likely to go into the thick of Liz and Engetsu's future diplomacy.

In the meantime, Liz continues to bravely strive forrad in her hinterlands life. For fans of Fruits Handbasket, Liz is definitely a Tohru-type heroine: a cheerful dimwit who remains intensely positive despite the tragedies in her life. She'due south also able to connect with social outcasts, every bit evidenced by the six people now living in her firm. At present that Hilde and Myrte are part of the family, it'due south most a given that Liz will find a way to draw Vergue in, despite his violent efforts to drive her away.

As for the romantic arc between Liz and En, there are a couple poignant moments betwixt the 2, but overall, the mood is more comic than sweet. En without memories is sarcastic and blunt, which makes him a lot more than interesting than when he was and so unconditionally agreeable toward Liz. Judging from a cursory interaction with Erwin, this new En is closer to his true personality and hints about a past I'm curious to larn more virtually.

Extras include four illustrations in total colour, story-thus-far and graphic symbol line-upwardly, embedded author's notes, translation notes, and a 9-page preview of Volume v.

This serial . . . is so tedious . . . and tedious . . . to read . . . especially when . . . every sentence . . . stretches over . . . two or iii . . . word balloons . . . and the story . . . hardly even . . . advances an inch. Must . . . terminate . . . reading.

Much is revealed nearly Liselotte's past in this book, along with the pasts of the witches Vergue and Hilde. Takaya Natsuki seems to similar creating these characters who seem fine on the outside but take a lot of hidden pain and suffering (see: Fruits Handbasket). I'k ever happy for more than background on the characters, especially minor ones, however all of it feels very superficial. Everything is glossed over pretty quickly so we tin can get back to the story of ~*~the cheerful and possibly dim-witted Li Much is revealed about Liselotte's past in this volume, along with the pasts of the witches Vergue and Hilde. Takaya Natsuki seems to like creating these characters who seem fine on the outside merely have a lot of hidden pain and suffering (see: Fruits Handbasket). I'one thousand e'er happy for more groundwork on the characters, especially minor ones, withal all of it feels very superficial. Everything is glossed over pretty quickly so we can become back to the story of ~*~the cheerful and maybe dim-witted Lise and her quirky companions~*~. I enjoy the manga'due south one-act and the lightheartedness for what it is (shallow entertainment, basically) but it seems at odds with the sudden flashes of sadness we become from the character'southward histories. I recall these two opposites tin actually be integrated really well to form a deep and emotionally-circuitous story, however this manga, being only 5 volumes long, is far too brusk for that, especially when nosotros accept so many characters. Notwithstanding, I'chiliad eager to read the fifth and final book; I want to see how things are resolved with Engetsu, whom I find more bonny with each volume (although he's still the obligatory generic, mysterious bishounen dear interest).

[Edit: I have since found out that the adjacent volume isn't the concluding one. The writer/creative person has only gone on hiatus afterwards releasing it so... that still doesn't actually say good things most the pacing of the story.]

This volume had me laughing and then much. It'southward so funny in those picayune moments! Ahhh I beloved the story just it does get a fleck disruptive yet. I retrieve the translation is a bit weird and also the story isn't as smooth as information technology could be with the flashbacks and stuff. BUT I really honey the series and desire to know and then much more! So pitiful there's only one more volume left, it'due south getting and then good and then deep.
The main character Liselotte reminded me so much of Tohru in this volume.

This volume wasn't as eventful as the previous, only information technology was alright. The character interactions and events are just as good as the first 3 books of the series. We find out a little more about the history of the characters and the plots of their by are fleshed out a niggling more so that's absurd. Looking forward to the next volume. The usual "proficient witch/bad witch" dichotomy seems to have been replaced by "ineffective witch/violent witch." Presumably, there volition be others in futurity volumes? Now taking bets on how long information technology'll have for both of them to motility in. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. There are some supporting characters that I already disliked. And despite a few hilarious moments, the backstory is alright. It is deep and horrific, but it didn't give a lot of information. The backstories didn't make me cringe nor made me cry. I would like to know more about Vergue and Hilde-sama'south past and how they came to be in the indicate they are at present. But this series is on hold.
